Formentera’s beaches: white sand & crystal clear sea – Part 1

Formentera is considered by many tourists as the most beautiful island of the Balearic archipelago and certainly represents, with its coastlines, much of the natural treasure of Spain. Without a doubt, the extraordinary beauty of its fine and white sandy miles and its spectacular hidden coves give absolute tranquility and deserved relaxation to all those who want to spend their holidays in a natural environment away from mass tourism, throughout the year. Today we are going to discover the first part of the most beautiful beaches in Formentera.

Playa Ses IIIletes

Ses Illetes beach is surely the most famous and beautiful beach in Formentera. It is part of the Saline Natural Park, located on the Es Trucadors peninsula and can be reached by any means thanks to the Mediterranean Avenue. It is about 1 kilometer long, it is the most Caribbean beach on the island. Wasting no water and crystalline water, it resembles a natural pool. Near the beach there are some restaurants, and you can rent parasols, sun loungers and practice many water sports. Located to the north of the island, it is one of the Spanish beaches that is a must to visit.

Racó de s’Alga – Espalmador Island

Only 150 meters from the tip of Ses Illetes lies the unpopulated and wild island of Espalmador, divided by the mother island by a sea lion called Es Pas, which, due to the strong currents, can only be crossed by Boats that depart from the ports of Illetes or La Savina. The island is a true unspoiled landscape, which is why it has been declared a protected park where any type of construction is forbidden. The beach of Racó de s’Alga is a natural creek with a fine white sandy sloping seabed. Situated on the west side of the island, due to its peculiar nature, there is a significant flow of nudists.

 Playa de Llevant

Climbing in the eastern part of Es Trucadors Peninsula, lies Llevant, a very large and beautiful beach. Also known as “Tanga” for the name of a famous bar-restaurant located at its entrance, it has a very white and fine sand with a clean and transparent sea. Sometimes, due to the wind, very high waves are formed, but the sea always has a wonderful colour. On the beach there are also kiosks and refreshments, but, in spite of this, the tourist presence is significantly lower than that of the nearby beaches. Access to the sea is facilitated by special wooden walkways embedded in a naturalistic setting formed by large dunes.
