Formentera’s Beaches: white sand & crystal clear water – Part 3

Formentera has about 20 kilometers of pristine sandy beaches, overlooking a crystal clear sea. Today we finish our journey to discover its finest beaches.

Cala Saona

Cala Saona is absolutely the ideal beach for families as it has all the amenities, sheltered by the wind and with a very low sandy sea bed. Located within the gulf of the same name in the western part of the island, it is accessible from Sant Francesc Xavier along a straight and sloping road surrounded by a magnificent landscape consisting of fig and carob fields. The area near the beach is surrounded by a wooded area composed of sea pines, ideal for nice walks. Sunset on the coast is a spectacle not to be missed: the contrast between the red colour of the rocks and the intense blue of the sea, in addition to the background view of the island of Ibiza, is something really unique in the world.

Playa Ses Platgetes

The north-central part of Formentera is certainly not the most breathtaking island of the island due to the strong winds blowing north and the rocky shorelines that characterize it. About 300 meters from Es Caló de Sant Agustí we find, however, Ses Platgetes, an unspoiled beach with a clear blue sea. Here the fascinating sea landscape is characterized by a rocky bottom with many aquatic species such as jellyfish, polyps and fish of various colours. This peculiarity makes it one of the most interesting places for tourists who enjoy underwater activities

 Playa Es Cavall D’En Borràs

Near the port of La Savina lies the beach of Es Cavall D’En Borràs. Easily accessible on foot from the harbor, it features a coastline consisting of fine sand and a shallow and sandy sea bottom. From this stretch of coast, which is part of the natural area of Ses Salines, you can admire the uninhabited rocky islands of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell. The beach of Es Cavall D’En Borràs is well known for the presence of two famous chiringuitos(beach bars), Tiburon and Beso Beach, which, every day before sunset, welcome many people to the famous “Puesta del Sol”: a widespread ritual in Formentera that consists of staying lying on the beach waiting for the sun to set, with only the noise of the sea going in the background.
