Formentera is the perfect destination for a fun and relaxing family trip: here are all the things you should not miss on holiday with your family.

The city is quieter and you can spend the days in contact with nature, organize bike tours of the island or simply relax in the sun swimming in the beautiful crystal clear waters.

To reach Formentera it is sufficient to take a hydrofoil from the port of Ibiza with destination La Savina, the only port on the island and from here rent a car or use the many buses that reach the various destinations on the island.

Those who choose Formentera as their holiday destination do it mainly to enjoy the beautiful sea and its beautiful beaches. One of the most popular beaches is definitely the beach of Ses Illetes, to the north of the island, and that includes all the necessary services such as bathing establishments with umbrellas and sunbeds and that is ideal for water activities such as sailing even for children. Es Pujols is characterized instead by fine sand and turquoise sea with numerous kiosks and stalls on its seafront, while Migjorn beach is considered the largest of the island and has numerous hotels, bars, restaurants and all kinds of tourist services. For families with children, however, the beach of Cala Savina is definitely the most suitable place.

A unique experience in Formentera are boat trips to stop in the coves and the most beautiful beaches of the island, often reachable only by sea. The excursions are also suitable for children and will allow you, for example, to snorkel among the most beautiful waters of the Mediterranean, to swim in the natural park of Cala Moro or to discover the island of Espalmador, with its pink beach and crystal clear waters. The raft trips usually last half a day and guests are provided with all the necessary safety equipment.

Of course, Formentera is not only sea but also green and for those who love holidays in contact with nature, the best way to discover the island is to explore it on foot or by bike thanks to the many cycle paths and ecological itineraries available.

What other activities can you do in Formentera with your family? One of the most beautiful trips is the one that will take you to discover the island's historic lighthouses, among which the one located at El Pilar de La Mola which is the oldest and highest on the island. Beside the lighthouse there is the monument dedicated to the writer Jules Verne who has set the adventures of Hector Servadac here and the view from the plateau is very suggestive and exciting especially at sunset. Continuing beyond Pilar you can also admire the splendid Molì Vell, an ancient windmill.

If you plan to visit the lighthouse on Wednesdays or Sundays, you can also take the opportunity to wander around the famous Formentera hippy market that takes place in the characteristic central square of La Mola. Here there are stalls selling handicrafts made by local artists and if you want to rest, in the small town of La Mola there are excellent restaurants offering typical dishes such as El Mirador which enjoys a magnificent view.

Another interesting thing to do in Formentera during a family vacation is to visit its most characteristic villages. A walk in the central square of Sant Francesc Xavier is ideal for a little shopping or to relax in a cafe in this very special village, frequented especially in the morning thanks to the market where you can find various crafts, jewelry and clothing. Es Pujols which is located in the north of Formentera and is one of the main tourist centers of the island.

Finally, one thing to absolutely do during a family holiday in Formentera is to taste the specialties of traditional local cuisine. The gastronomy of the island offers above all tasty dishes based on fish and shellfish such as paella, the amanida de peix sec, based on dried fish, papaya salad and fried octopus, but also tasty and delicious are the desserts such as bunyols, fried with orange juice or the Flaó, a fresh cheesecake with mint.
